SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS QB Colin Kaepernick

It's been a while since I've posted anything, or even done any art that wasn't for a client or for work so this was a nice relaxing painting to do. I havent painted in so long, and yes I know it's digital but the feeling of painting, I havent done because my job is mostly flat cartoony figures. So in honor of the Forty Niners first game, and home opener, I wanted to paint a 49er.

Now anyone who has spoken to me before on my opinions on Colin Kaepernick have never been too high ever since he became the 49ers starting qb. Don't get me wrong I think the guy is a phenomenal athlete, but because of my background in coaching football, something irked me about superb athletes in a position where you have to be smarter than just a playmaker.
With that said, HE IS THE STARTER of my team, therefore, as a fan (who likes to be aware and not follow blindly) I will be hopeful for 49ers to have a good season behind their QB. He is now one of the veterans and leaders of the team with so many leaving this past offseason that it is truly his time to shine and step it up. Good Like Kaep, and bring that Lombardi Trophy Home.

So I watched Disney Pixar's Inside Out this weekend... and I have to say... I LOVED IT!!! It has to be the top movie I watched this year and already one of the top Pixar if not THE top pixar film. It definitely after one watch has made my top animated films list. Just such a complete story and smart story.... so here's whats inside my head. Maybe I'll do a sketch of them on their console at some point because it's just too awesome not to pass up.

AVENGERS! Wanda Maximoff - Scarlet Witch

Hey Guys,

sorry it took awhile, been busy the past week. Just came back from disneyland... bummed that the 60th anniversary stuff wasn't up. But I will definitely post some photos of disneyland that I liked. But I digress, here is the next Avengers member the sister of Pietro and a MUTANT not this "enhanced" bs. Wanda Maximoff The Scarlet Witch. She's pretty much an OP character in the comics so they dumbed her down a lot in the MCU but hey, still loved the movie.
I didn't want to go with her sexy outfit so I did the dress with a headband rather than a mask/crown. I also didnt want too much red so I colored her gloves black and her boots to balance it out. I had so much trouble drawing this, maybe because she's female. I have to draw more females :D

I had so many problems with this character. The initial sketch.... the proportions, at one point the arm length was a head and a half long. (which is completely wrong) Her torso was really squashed at one point, and the legs looked JLO booty huge. I have no idea what was going on. But I'm glad I got it to a finish. Otherwise I would've gone nuts trying to fix it.

AVENGERS! Quicksilver Pietro Maximoff

Alright next up. Pietro Maximoff... also known to most as Magnetos Son, twin brother to Wanda Maximoff (Scarlet Witch), and most of all QUICKSILVER! Now since these were made to honor the move that came out last week I gotta say one thing and no it's not a spoiler for you guys who havent watched the movie but... "Didnt see that coming!"
I liked the look they did with quick silver in the movie so I sort of took pieces from the ultimate version and his original costume with a little idea from the movie version. I had so much trouble getting the run gesture down. I'm not even sure if I got a good run pose down. But at least I got it to a finish. Hope you like.
Final Color. I didn't want to go all powdered blue so I did what they did similar to the movie and made him have darker pants.

Took me so many revisions just to get the pose right.
Check out this initial sketch. I completely twisted and contorted the body but something just didn't feel right even though the pose looked dynamic. I probably broke his spine in this pose.

AVENGERS! Natasha Romanoff (Romanova) Black Widow

Next up is Hawkeye's partner in crime (or Shield) The assassin known as Black Widow, Natasha Romanoff or Natalia Romanova.

I had a little difficulty doing this drawing. I havent drawn women in awhile and a bunch of initial sketches she looked either too masculine or really skinny. If you look at the sketch at the bottom she's way too petite she feels like a 15-16 year old. Hopefully I will do more female drawings or female superheroes in the future to fix the issues I had with this. But I definitely had fun working on this drawing. I wanted to leave the leather look in the comics because I wanted to attempt that kind of texture, rather than a matte looking Kevlar suit. Enjoy!

she kind of reminds me of the actress that played Jean Grey in the first X-Men live action film. It might have been an accident but I wanted her to be thin and stealth like.

AVENGERS!!! Hawkeye

Ok, so I finally saw Avengers today and loved it!!! Lived up to it's hype and moves pretty darn fast for a 2 and half hour movie. Definitely would love to check out the directors 3 hr cut of the film. So I would like finish the team that was featured in the movie. So starting off the supporting cast (to the main four) Clint Barton. I wanted to stay true to the original comic costume with some of the updated costume ideas with the current one from the movie. The marvel cinematic universe doesn't really delve into the idea that all these heroes have "secret identities". So a lot of the heroes in the movies have no masks. But MASKS ARE COOL.

Alright the Avengers is out. GO SEE IT!!!! I tried to last night but I could not find parking at a theatre that had about 10 showings that evening haha. Oh well.... I will attempt Sunday but in the meantime I want to continue with this. At least get through all the characters in the upcoming film. But here is the leader of the Avengers. CAPTAIN MERICA!

I really love how the shield turned out here.

I wanted to ink the scales on his chest but I was going for more of a military armor look. I'll probably do another where I have to ink the scales but that should be fun :/

Here is the rough cleanup and the initial sketch of the drawing. I originally had his head facing his shield like he's going to attack with it. But I put all the characters together and it was better that his head was turned based on the placement I put him in relation to the other superheroes. Stay tuned to see how that turns out.

AVENGERS WEEK! Invincible Iron Man

Here is the next Avenger up, the number two in command and the only reason we have an Avenger movie series because of the success of the franchise. INVINCIBLE IRON MAN!!!

This was probably the most difficult to try and get right. Probably because I'm not used to drawing robotic and non organic shapes. I did have fun inking this because I got to create all these organic shapes inside the armor to imitate a reflective shiny metallic surface.

I enjoyed this process. I might do another "metal" character for some fun inking technique practice.

Avengers Week! Thor!

Next up in the Avengers piece, The thunder god, and pantene pro v commercial spokesperson THOR! This was pretty fun to draw. Crazy organic lines everywhere.

Alright guys, because the Avengers movie is coming out this weekend I will do a re tribute (cause I already sketched these guys but since I'm doing it in a different style) to the team. I want to do one a day till friday or thursday midnight for you uber fans. Starting off with the biggest and strongest avenger and maybe the whole mcu (if you count planet hulk when he gets as big as a planet) THE INCREDIBLE HULK!!!

I lifted his head on the final color because i didn't want him to feel like he had a short neck and all traps.

Hey Guys,

i've been meaning to post this a week ago but I just got super busy. I should've posted it right after watching the Netflix show because that show is one BA origin story. I'm not sure if I like the suit... maybe because I'm not a big fan of the armor one in the comics (but it's definitely an improvement on the current design). But I will have to say the Affleck suit was more BA than this one. I hope they delve into more character development with DD in the next season. The delved into it a little bit but I like the dynamic that he's catholic and he struggles with being a religious person and this vigilante.  Those who have read the comic (thanks to frank miller) DD's story just gets even darker. Nice change of pace for marvel and I would like to see DD make it into Civil war. At least a cameo since they live in the same universe.
But anyway here is my DD tribute. So I will hold myself accountable as will anyone else who will check out my blog that the next two weeks, I will redo the avengers sketches I did a while back ago to newer ones. I want to practice inking and anatomy and more dynamic poses so Keep an eye out for that, since Avengers is coming out that will be my TRIBUTE cause i'm super excited. Otherwise hope you guys like these.

here's the full color. I really liked how this turned out.
This is the inked version, I will take any feedback from my artist friends or any other artist on how to ink better. Always working to get better
and here is my sketch (with the clean line on to) I added the gargoyle after.

Farewell Patrick Willis

My tribute to one of the best linebackers to have played in the NFL. I was hoping to watch this man play for a few more years in hopes for a shot at a superbowl. Thank you for the memories and the dedication. Was a leader by example and my favorite player the past 10 years.

RIP Leonard Nimoy

Today the world mourns the passing of Leonard Nimoy. I was not a big Star Trek fan, if anything I was a Wars fan... YES THERE'S A BIG DIFFERENCE YOU NON NERDS! :D
But anyone who understands, for lack of a better word "nerd culture" Leonard Nimoy is a big part of that world. Science fiction, science fantasy is big all because of Star Trek. And Star Trek is basically synonymous with SPOCK. The convention scene would have not become so big because of stars like Mr Nimoy back in the day going to these conventions for the fans.
Here is my tribute for a man who truly LIVED LONG AND PROSPERED. Thank you Mr Nimoy for what you have contributed.

My Brother and Best Man

Alrighty, time to continue with my vinylmation pieces. Here was the 2nd vinylmation I made for my brother, who I asked to be my best man. I originally was going to paint him the same suit color as the other one but I wanted to have some fun and paint it differently.

Here he is standing next to me!

I created this box for both him and my best friend

here is the turnaround of his figure

and here is the photo i worked with

Superbowl XLIX WINNER....ugh....MVP... 76ERS!!!

WOW..... for a superbowl that I wanted to say is THE WORST superbowl for me, if you have worked with me or even spoken to me about football the past 10 years.... i dislike the patriots. Basically after tuck rule.... Raider fans would know what I mean. And they were playing my teams NFC west rivals the seahawks! Normally I would root for the team playing against Tom Brady and Belichick but I guess the past three to four years I have disliked the Seahawks more. The last time it was the pats and Seahawks I rooted for Matt Hassleback and Shawn Alexander (YO 12TH MAN.... Do you know at least those two seahawks?)

The football game last night was actually a really good game. I saw myself rooting for a team I just loathed for the better part of a decade. This piece I drew was actually supposed to be a superbowl piece with a seahawks player on the other side. It was actually going to be Richard Sherman, but I just didn't meet the Sunday Deadline. I might actually draw sherman anyway (crying HA! just kidding).

Because I disliked Brady for most of his career, cheering for him yesterday was a nice way to say, yes you're a damn good qb, but you're no montanna :D If you hear me hating on the patriots thats just me speaking to my discontent of that team but I always have spoken volumes of the pats organization if I'm discussing FOOTBALL because i respect the system that's in place there in New England. I always said it wasn't the players, it was the system and the coaching in place that makes that team great (making brady look great. If Matt Cassel looked good in NE will.... COME ON!). I feel brady was a good qb who was always in great teams (number 1 defense how many years again?) But you can't refute his greatness as an NFL qb if he has 4 Superbowl rings. So hey, what I am saying, Good Job Brady, if you pull a John Elway and walk away after winning it big, I don't think anyone will blame you, but the way you play football, I see you playing at least 2 to 3 more years. With a young football team there in New England, we could potentially see you at the show one more time.

New year New Art - Vinylmations Best Man

Hi Guys,

so it's been almost a year since I've posted anything on my blog and I need that to change. It's a new year and I'm coming back full force. Be ready for old art, new art, new medium, quick sketches, paintings you name it. I'm going to try and post as much as I can, and try to make it a daily thing. So please stay tuned. To start off this year I am going to post a bunch of VINYLMATIONS!!!! I got commissioned to do a couple of these so I want to show those to you. BUT FIRST!!! My wedding on 12-13-14 was amazing and had such a wonderful time. Will post photos as soon as I get them for anyone interested. But to finish out some wedding stuff, I made vinylmations for my best men, and my wife's maid of honors. This was the first of that series, my best friend and co best man Christian. I even made boxes for these guys but sadly I didn't take photos of this one before I presented it to him. Nice tidbit I gave this one and my brother's during a christmas party to formally ask them to be my best men. Hope they kept them mint in the box haha.

I was hoping to take photos of them with it, but didn't happen so this turnaround and picture will have to do. We're buddies!!! and we even hang out toy form!!!

Here is the photo I referenced this vinylmation off of. Good lookin guy this one.
